The Music program at Grant MacEwan University in Edmonton, Alberta is seeking a prominent Jazz/Contemporary musician to fill a new full-time continuing position in MacEwan’s new music degree program (BMus in Jazz and Contemporary Popular Music). The applicant must be a rhythm section player with expertise in all styles of contemporary music including Jazz, Country, Pop and Rock. Responsibilities may include class instruction in improvisation, theory, ear training, history, and coaching and writing for small and large ensembles. Recruitment and the development of curriculum for the Music program comprise an important part of this position. The successful applicant must have a strong interest in teaching as a career priority and an ability to work in a collegial environment. Primary teaching responsibilities will be in the degree, but diploma courses may also be included.

This full-time continuing position includes a full benefit package and will commence on August 1, 2011.  Candidates must have a minimum of a Masters degree (Masters in Music preferred). The successful candidate will be a high profile jazz/commercial educator with broad-based professional experience as an improviser, performer and clinician/adjudicator, and will have demonstrated excellence in teaching at the post-secondary level. A demonstration of research and professional accomplishments will be considered an asset.

MacEwan’s Music program is situated within the faculty of the Centre for the Arts and Communications of Grant MacEwan University and is part of Edmonton’s vibrant arts community. Beginning in September 2011, the program will offer a four-year Bachelor of Music Degree in Jazz and Contemporary Popular Music (academic). This new degree builds on MacEwan’s reputation as one of the finest music schools in Canada, and will run concurrently with MacEwan’s acclaimed two-year Music Diploma program.
