The Schulich School of Music is the largest and most renowned university-based professional training program in Canada. It is an international leader in music creation and performance, and for scientific and humanities-based research in music and sound. A Faculty within McGill University, one of the top research-intensive universities in the world, the Schulich School is also home to the Centre for Interdisciplinary Research in Music Media and Technology (CIRMMT). We seek individuals with an international profile in musical creation who will maintain a high level of professional activity in the field and are able to teach and supervise students in all university degree and diploma programs through to the doctoral level.

The Department of Music Research invites applications for a tenure track position in Composition at the rank of Associate Professor, beginning in the academic year 2011-2012.

Duties: Teaching and advising at the graduate and undergraduate levels, graduate seminars, thesis and dissertation supervision, committee work, and development of curriculum offerings at all levels. Continuation of an active composing career is assumed.

Qualifications: Doctorate in music composition or equivalent. Acknowledged international profile as a composer with important achievements and recognition in the field of instrumental composition, especially with regard to large-scale forms for both large and small ensembles. Significant accomplishments in teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels in both instrumental and digital studio composition. Significant research accomplishments including an artistic engagement with music technologies such as computer-assisted composition, live electronics, real-time interactive digital systems (synthesis and signal processing), etc., and evidence of participation in interdisciplinary collaborative research projects.

The position is subject to final budgetary approval. Salary is commensurate with qualification and experience.
