Tenure-track faculty position
The Dan School of Drama and Music in the Faculty of Arts and Science at Queen’s University invites applications for a Tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor with specialization in two or more of: Dramatic Literature, Theory of Drama, Playwriting, Directing, Theatre History (preferably before 1900), and Music Theatre. We would be particularly interested in receiving applications from scholar-practitioners who bring perspectives on race, Indigeneity, or diversity into conversation with their area of specialization. The successful candidate will be expected to direct student productions, so directing experience is an important asset. The preferred starting date for the position is July 1, 2020.
The Dan School offers a comprehensive and cutting-edge undergraduate education in drama, music and music theatre. Our faculty and our programs foster collaboration among our students in ways that extend the range of their skills and help to develop their imaginations and entrepreneurial abilities. We recently launched a Bachelor of Music Theatre degree as well as our first graduate programs, beginning with a focus on Arts Leadership, and these new programs are thriving. The performance home of the Dan School is the Isabel Bader Centre for the Performing Arts, a beautiful first-class facility on the shore of Lake Ontario, which contains a magnificent concert hall, a black box studio, a rehearsal and recital hall, and a screening room, as well as range of studios, practice rooms, and classrooms.
Candidates must have a PhD or equivalent degree completed at the start date of the appointment. The main criteria for selection are academic and teaching excellence. The successful candidate will provide evidence of high quality scholarly output that demonstrates potential for independent research leading to peer-assessed publications and the securing of external research funding, as well as strong potential for outstanding teaching contributions at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, and an ongoing commitment to academic and pedagogical excellence in support of the Dan School’s programs. Candidates must provide evidence of an ability to work collaboratively in an interdisciplinary and student-centred environment. The successful candidate will be expected to make contributions through service to the Dan School, the Faculty, the University, and/or the broader community. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
