Assistant Professor in Composition and Music Theory

The Fountain School of Performing Arts (FSPA) at Dalhousie University invites applications for a ten-month (100% FTE) limited-term appointment in Composition and Music Theory, at the rank of Assistant Professor, commencing August 1, 2020.The position is subject to budgetary approval.

The successful candidate’s duties may include but are not limited to teaching individual lessons and group classes in composition, as well as core music theory courses, including the study of diatonic and chromatic harmony, and form and analysis courses (MUSC 1222, 2221, 2222, and 3221). The successful candidate will also be expected to contribute to administrative service within the Fountain School of Performing Arts (including administration/coordination of the Composition Program) and liaise with local new music groups for the organization of workshops, events, lectures, etc.

The qualifications required for this position are a doctorate in Composition or equivalent by the time of appointment and demonstrated excellence in composition and university-level teaching.
