Music program - Faculty Position in Composition and Theory

 

The Music Program is seeking a prominent Jazz/Contemporary musician to fill the position of full time continuing faculty member for the Bachelor of Music in Jazz and Contemporary Popular Music and existing Diploma of Music programs.  The successful applicant will have experience with all styles of contemporary music including Jazz, Country, Pop and Rock. Primary teaching responsibilities will be in the areas of composition, theory and arranging but may also include performance courses depending on the expertise of the successful applicant. Experience teaching in film scoring and/or music technology would be considered an asset.

 

Recruitment and the development of curriculum for the Music program comprise an important part of this position.  The successful applicant must have a strong interest in teaching as a career priority and an ability to work in a collegial environment.  Primary teaching responsibilities will be in the degree but diploma courses may also be included.

 

The Music program is situated within the faculty of the Centre for the Arts and Communications and is part of a vibrant arts community.  The Bachelor of Music degree builds on MacEwan’s reputation as one of the finest music schools in Canada, and runs concurrently with MacEwan’s acclaimed two-year Music Diploma program.

 

This full time continuing position includes a full benefit package and will commence on July 1, 2012.  Candidates must have a minimum of a Masters degree; Doctorate in music preferred.  The successful candidate will be a high profile jazz/commercial music educator with broad based professional experience, and will have demonstrated excellence in teaching at the post-secondary level. A demonstration of research and professional accomplishments will be considered an asset.

This position is included under the Faculty Association Collective Agreement.

 

Salary Type: Full Time Continuing

 

Salary:  Commensurate with education and experience
