Music Program – Head of Vocal Department


The Music Program is seeking a prominent Jazz/Contemporary musician to assume the position of Head of the Vocal Department.  Duties will include overseeing all aspects of the vocal program including recruitment and development of curriculum.  The applicant should have experience with all styles of contemporary music including Jazz, Country, Pop and Rock. A strong background in vocal technique as it applies to jazz and contemporary popular music is a necessity.  Responsibilities may include class instruction in improvisation, theory, ear training, history, and coaching small and large ensembles. The successful applicant must have a strong interest in teaching as a career priority and an ability to work in a collegial environment.


The Music program is situated within the faculty of the Centre for the Arts and Communications and is part of a vibrant arts community.  The Bachelor of Music degree builds on MacEwan’s reputation as one of the finest music schools in Canada, and runs concurrently with MacEwan’s acclaimed two year Music Diploma program.


This full time continuing position includes a full benefit package and will commence on June 15, 2012.  Candidates must have a minimum of a Masters degree (Masters in Music preferred). The successful candidate will be a high profile jazz/commercial educator with broad based professional experience as a performer and clinician/adjudicator, and will have demonstrated excellence in teaching at the post-secondary level. Primary teaching responsibilities will be in the diploma but degree courses may also be included.  A demonstration of research and professional accomplishments will be considered an asset.

This position is included under the Faculty Association Collective Agreement.


Salary Type: Full Time Continuing


Salary:  Commensurate with education and experience
