Position in Choral Conducting

The Schulich School of Music of McGill University is Canada’s leading university-based program for the training of professional performers and composers, and for humanities-based and scientific research in music and sound. We seek individuals with an international profile in musical performance who will maintain a high level of professional activity and are able to teach and supervise advanced students in all university undergraduate, graduate and diploma programs through to the professional level.

The Department of Performance invites applications for a tenure track position in Choral Conducting at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor, for an initial 3-year appointment beginning August 1, 2014.

Duties may include conducting Schulich School of Music choral ensembles, teaching choral conducting techniques, supervising graduate conducting students, and teaching appropriate choral literature and performance practice courses.

The successful candidate should have a Doctoral degree or equivalent professional experience with significant international profile. There must be evidence of strong research, knowledge of choral repertoire – including music of the present day, combined with effective teaching, performance, organizational and interpersonal skills.

Selected candidates will be invited to conduct a choral rehearsal and/or masterclass, and meet with members of the Faculty Search Committee.

Salary and rank commensurate with qualifications and experience. The position is subject to final budgetary approval.
