Position in Organ and Church Music

The Schulich School of Music of McGill University is Canada’s leading university-based program for the training of professional performers and composers, and for humanities-based and scientific research in music and sound. We seek individuals with an international profile in musical performance who will maintain a high level of professional activity and are able to teach and supervise advanced students in all university undergraduate, graduate and diploma programs through to the professional level.

The Department of Performance invites applications for one (1) full-time tenure-track position in Organ and Church Music at the rank of Full Professor.

Rank and Salary: Rank shall be determined by the qualification of the successful applicant and salary shall be commensurate with the rank. This position is subject to final budgetary approval.

Academic Duties: The academic duties will consist of teaching, research and service to the University. Accordingly, the individual will be expected to maintain a high level of international professional activity while teaching and supervising students in all university undergraduate, graduate and diploma programs through to the professional level. This will include studio performance instruction, teaching and advising at the graduate and undergraduate levels, general coordination of the Organ and Church Music area activities, fulfilling duties as University Organist, supervision of the organs on campus, participation in committees, and development of curriculum offerings at all levels. The individual will also be expected to continue an active research career and contribute significantly to the advancement of humanities-based and scientific research in music and sound for which the School is noted.

Qualifications: Doctorate degree, or equivalent professional experience as a performer, possessing an international profile, extensive teaching experience at the university level and demonstrated administrative experience in an academic setting. The candidate should be knowledgeable about historical performance practice and also have a keen interest in contemporary music. The entire research profile will be examined; fifteen years university-level teaching experience in a tenured position required.
