The Faculty of Music, University of Toronto invites applications for a full-time tenure stream position in Music Education. This appointment will be at the rank of Assistant Professor and will begin July 1, 2011.

Applicants must be scholar-teachers in music education with demonstrated effectiveness in working with students at the undergraduate and graduate levels as well as experience in music teaching at the school or community level.  Candidates must have a completed doctorate in music education.

The successful candidate will complement the existing expertise of our music education faculty with some combination of: diverse pedagogical approaches (for example music learner-oriented applications of technology; popular music and media; creativity-based learning); string instrument pedagogy; psycho-social dimensions of music education. In addition to demonstrated excellence in teaching and musicianship, the candidate must show evidence of scholarly and professional publication and dissemination of research appropriate to the field of music education. Responsibilities and expectations will include teaching undergraduate and graduate courses, supervising graduate students, actively pursuing a program of research and publication, and contributing to University and Professional committees and associations.


The University of Toronto is located in the heart of one of the world's great cities, and the Faculty of Music plays a vital part in its active musical and educational life. The Faculty of Music is an academic division of Canada's largest research university in the culturally rich and diverse city of Toronto. It offers undergraduate, masters, and doctoral degrees in music education, performance including jazz and opera, ethnomusicology, composition, and musicology/theory and offers a collaborative program with the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education.

The successful candidate will be expected to reside in Toronto, maintain a regular presence on campus, and be strongly committed to the academic activities of the Faculty of Music.
