Applications are invited for a three-year limited-term position in Instrumental Music Education (August 1, 2023 – July 31, 2026) at the rank of Assistant Professor within the Department of Music at the University of Saskatchewan.
The successful candidate will teach undergraduate and potentially graduate level courses in instrumental music education with other courses assigned that are commensurate with the candidate’s expertise and the department’s ongoing curricular needs. Assigned courses will be selected from some combination of the following (listed alphabetically): applied studio, composition & arranging, conducting (course and/or ensemble instruction), contemporary music, jazz, literature, methods & techniques, musicianship, pedagogy, and school-based teacher observation. The successful candidate will also undertake administrative activities corresponding to rank. In keeping with the University of Saskatchewan strategic planning commitments, the Department welcomes all candidates especially those who demonstrate leadership with respect to Indigenization and/or a strong commitment to ongoing musical artistic practice, innovative teaching, scholarship, and outreach and community engagement.

The Department of Music resides within the College of Arts & Science which offers a dynamic combination of programs in the humanities and fine arts, social sciences, and natural sciences. There are approximately 9,000 undergraduate and graduate students in the College and 296 faculty, including 10 Canada Research Chairs.
With a present complement of nine full-time faculty members including the David L Kaplan Chair in Music, and twenty sessional instructors, the Department of Music offers a B. Mus. (Performance, Individualized, and Music Education streams), graduate degrees in music education, musicology, music theory, and performance (includes conducting), a jazz certificate, and a B.A. (Major in Music). The Department of Music has a well-established record of strong leadership in music education, performance, internationally recognized music scholarship, and ongoing outreach and engagement.
Qualifications: Doctorate in a relevant field (such as conducting or music education) at the time of appointment (ABD considered). Previous teaching experience at either the elementary or secondary level will be considered an asset.
The salary band for this position is as follows: Assistant Professor $ 99,945- $120,099.
