MacEwan University’s Department of Theatre in the Faculty of Fine Arts and Communications invites applications for a full-time tenure-track appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor in Music Theatre Performance (Music Direction and Voice – Singing) commencing on July 1, 2024. This new faculty position will  play an important role in the ongoing implementation of a new BFA in Music Theatre Performance and may have opportunities for interdisciplinary teaching  within the Faculty of Fine Arts and Communications.

The successful candidate will have strong keyboard skills, be able to music direct and play in season productions and have the ability to teach and/or coach students in the discipline of voice (singing). There is also potential to teach additional courses in music theory and ear training, acting, and interdisciplinary studies. The ability to work effectively in a student-centered, collegial environment is considered very important, and a vision towards developing new approaches to undergraduate music theatre education will be seen as an asset.

Candidates will hold a minimum of a master’s degree or equivalent professional experience and will demonstrate experience in and a commitment to undergraduate teaching with an ongoing interest in research in their discipline. A clear promise of excellence in research and/or creative practice is essential. The successful candidate will have a commitment to innovative pedagogy and building equitable, diverse, and inclusive teaching practices. In addition, applicants will submit a teaching dossier that includes a teaching philosophy, a record of courses taught, and course evaluations.
